LIGHTING CANDLES AT SPREEPARK

I'm back from Berlin with some good stories to tell and some to be left untold. To begin with my friend Tuukka had a birthday earlier in May and now we finally had the chance to celebrate it in a unique way at the abandoned amusement park Spreepark in East Berlin.

As you can see, after the cake was done there was still time for some fun & games and everyone left with a happy face having successfully dodged the security guard for a good 4 hours.

It's not about the money, but still..all this for the price of four S-bahn tickets, cake & candles from Kaiser's and some cold beers. That wouldn't give you this much excitement in most amusement parks.

For those wondering what Spreepark is and how to get there - more info & stories will follow.

Photos from LODZ

Few weeks ago I got to visit the 3th biggest city of Poland, Lodz. This year I've been to many places around the world, but this small city in the middle of nowhere was definitely one of the most interesting ones. Plenty of modern design and nice architecture, but also a lot of unfinished construction and really raw places. Here's some photos from the city. More posts about the best hotel in Lodz and about the best street art in the Zachodnia street are also in the works so keep following.

That is one of the smallest away fan sections I've ever seen at any stadium.

The next post will probably be something interesting directly from Berlin. I'm flying there early for a long weekend to celebrate the birthday of a good friend. Stay up to date at Twitter, Pinterest & Instagram (jasonfi).

IIHFWC2012

The Ice Hockey World Championship tournament was played in Helsinki (and Stockholm) this May and I was lucky to be able to go and watch so many interesting games!

Russia won the championship 100% unbeaten with a team full of surprisingly motivated NHL ballers, especially Ovie & Malkin were on fire. Always sympathetic Slovakia finished second - it was nice to see some of their players picking up their medals wearing jerseys of a former Slovak star player Pavol Demitra who died in a plane accident in 2011.

BREAK THE SPELL

Some of you might remember the photos I posted earlier this spring from Minneapolis, Raleigh and Detroit and now I'm happy to finally show you one of the reasons why I was there plus a few behind the scenes photos. Even though I usually try to keep all the work stuff away from here I think this project is something well worth sharing on this blog.

Break The Spell video series shows some of Finland's finest hockey players in their natural environment backed up by an exclusive soundtrack from Gracias.

How I was involved is that amongst many other things I also did the styling for the video shoot. Building the new look of hockey from Nike training and NSW products was truly one of the most interesting projects I've been working on so far. You can also see some more photos I took in the States in Iltalehti.fi fashion pages mixed with some top level photos Taavetti Alin took here in Finland.

High hopes of a whole nation lie on the hands in these gloves tonight. The hosting country hasn't won the World Championship in ice hockey for over 20 years, but let's see if this is the year it happens.

The number 51 remains the same, but tonight the colours of the jersey are the exact opposite. Break The Spell.

Massive shoutouts to Playmakers for filming and especially to Cocoa for producing the films - World Class! And the biggest thank you belongs to the elite athletes involved.

DANIEL AVERY // STOPMAKINGME @ Nolla

British techno/house artist Stopmakingme / Daniel Avery is playing a set at Nolla tonight. I'm doing the visuals again and since Stopmakingme sound is all about using analogue equipment I also did some new even more lo-fi stuff for event.

And as a preview of the sound here's my favorite track from Stopmakingme's latest EP titled 'Movement':

My Favorite Song of the Week: O. Children - Chimera

O Children is a really interesting modern rock band mixing elements from various genres in a tasteful way. Today I heard they are releasing a new album titled 'Apnea' on June 11th 2012. The first track extracted from the album is beyond promising:

The photo on this post was taken in Lodz, Poland. It's a city that fuses old and new like O Children leadman Tobi O'Kandi fuses music genres. More about Lodz and my other recent travels later.!

1ST of MAY

All photos from jasonfi instagram & taken with iPhone4
This year I took the first of May to the max by visiting Ruka for Wappulounas for the weekend and coming back to sunny Helsinki for the actual first of May. Had a nice day "at the mountain" and Entropy's traditional first of May outdoor party was really nice only 48 hours after snowboarding. Not bad at all to drink a fresh Club-Mate while listening to some first class techno and looking at the sunset of the bottom left photo.

Design Inspiration: Aquapark, Moscow

In 2004 Aquapark was set to become a gigantic waterpark in the borders of Moscow. However things changed while a fatal accident in another waterpark in Transvaal changed the rules and regulations around amusement park safety forcing the constructor to cease the construction of Aquapark in the very middle of the process.

The contrast between really strong concrete structures and sunlight looks really creepy, but interesting at the same time. Seeing photos of this place is already an experience so it's hard to imagine what it would be like to visit Aquapark.

The set of photos used in this post was taken by a Russian photographer Dmitry Mordolff. You can view the full set of original images HERE.
